The Los Angeles Dodgers hired Jeff Kingston as their vice president and assistant general manager, reports Ken Gurnick.

Kingston was previously with the Seattle Mariners in the same role. The role is interesting considering the Dodgers don’t necessarily have a GM to be assisted. Andrew Friedman previously said they wouldn’t hire anyone to replace Farhan Zaidi.

The move comes on the first day of the winter meetings. Kingston worked with the San Diego Padres before heading to Seattle.

He’ll likely assume some of the duties that Zaidi had in his four years with the team.
