Are the Los Angeles Dodgers preparing to make a splash?
Jesse Sanchez reported that the team was ‘back in the mix’ for Bryce Harper, and that club officials (Dave Roberts included) were in Harper’s neighborhood of Las Vegas on Sunday. Several reports confirmed the team’s presence in Vegas.
Here’s a rundown of the reports on the Dodgers’ interest and what they seem to be looking for in a potential deal.
The Los Angeles Dodgers re-engaged with Bryce Harper’s camp two weeks ago seeking a shorter-term deal, sources tell @RamonaShelburne and me. On heels of @JesseSanchezMLB report the parties met Sunday in Las Vegas, question becomes whether either side will move toward the other.

#Dodgers’ interest in Harper is short-term, sources tell The Athletic. After turning down #Nationals’ $300M, Boras/Harper obviously want to go long. If short-term is in play, other teams also might jump in. All hinges on whether #Phillies are willing to top $300M and close deal.

1/From what I understand, #Dodgers see Harper hasn’t signed which means #Phillies either have not gotten to desired $ figure and/or Harper does not want to play in Philly, so why not re-engage and see if short-term/high AAV provides a winning alternative. While at same time,

2/providing a short-term counter if fellow NL West teams #SFGiants #Padres are only offering shorter terms too and perhaps pushing #Phillies bid higher to maybe hurt their future flexibility on players both LAD/Pha might want.

Being in Bryce Harper's orbit the last couple years, I got the sense that he appreciates baseball history, enjoys the big stage, and loves Los Angeles. Doesn't mean he signs there, obviously, but the Dodgers check those boxes.

It still doesn’t appear that the team is interested in a mega-deal but the fact that Harper hasn’t signed has allowed them the luxury of re-entering the talks.
With the regular season just over a month away, it’ll be interesting to see how much longer Harper takes before signing his new deal.
