Death, taxes, and Clayton Kershaw dominating the San Francisco Giants.
Indeed – it happened again on Tuesday night – on the five-year anniversary of his no-hit performance at Dodger Stadium.
After another 7 scoreless innings tonight, Clayton Kershaw now owns a 1.68 career ERA with 343 strikeouts vs the Giants.

Kershaw provided a 7 scoreless-inning gem in the Dodgers’ 9-0 victory over the Giants. While he allowed just 3 hits and struck out 6, something else happened.
He lowered his lifetime ERA against the rival opponent to 1.68 against San Francisco. With 6 strikeouts, he’s punched out 343 Giants during the regular season in his career. Here’s the kicker: since the ERA became an official stat in 1913, Kershaw is the only pitcher with over 300 strikeouts and an ERA less than 2.00 against a single opponent.

Now, with all this talk of Dodgers pitching records since ERA became an official stat in 1913; we don’t want anyone to become confused. For instance, Hyun-Jin Ryu had another ERA record just days ago.
However, this one feels a little more meaningful; if that’s possible. While I somewhat realize looking back in my fuzzy memory bank that Kershaw has turned it up a notch against the Giants, I had no idea that he had dominated them quite to this degree.
In case you are wondering, Kershaw has a 23-11 lifetime record against the Giants. All of this comes in 337.1 innings pitched, and includes 6 complete games and five shutouts.
When you think you know all you can about Kershaw, you learn that he goes into another dimension of the matrix against the Giants. And this is another reason to love Clayton Kershaw, as if there weren’t enough.
Finally, I can find no better way to end this post than with the strikeout-montage from Tuesday evening.
