Dodgers Expected to Use Spot Starter This Week

Dodgers pitcher Ross Stripling confirmed that — after he was spotted back in the bullpen by ESPN cameras on Sunday after already appearing in the game — he was building up his pitch count for a spot start likely to come on Thursday.

In an interview on our Blue Heaven podcast today, he said that he is still “remotely built up,” and that with Julio Urias already throwing 3 innings lately, one of the two will likely start against the Giants.

We should be able to get us, at least, into the sixth and then see where we’re at. Kinda give the rotation that’s been eating up innings like crazy an extra day, and maybe it’ll pay off down the road.

The Dodgers are in a stretch of 18 games in a row, and 24 games in 25 days leading up to the All-Star break.

Stripling has a 3.21 ERA in 19 games this season, but a 2.65 ERA in 6 starts and 34 innings earlier in the campaign. His last start came on April 25th against the Cubs in Chicago.

Urias currently has a 3.05 ERA in 16 games. In his 4 starts this season, he had an ERA of 3.66 in 19.2 innings pitched.
