Dodgers News: Los Angeles First Team to 50 Win Mark in 2019

The Dodgers won their 50th game on Wednesday night against the Giants. They reached that mark in only 75 games.

Moreover, while they currently hold a 1 game lead over the Minnesota Twins for the best record in all of baseball, the more interesting takeaway is that with that 50th win, the 2019 Dodgers found themselves mentioned along side one of the winningest teams of all time.

Yes, by the calendar date, the Dodgers are the second earliest team to reach the 50 win mark in MLB history. They missed the all time record set by the 2001 Mariners by 5 days.

The ’01 Mariners went on to win 116 games en route to an ALCS loss to the Yankees in 5 games. That 116 win tally tied the 1906 Chicago Cubs for the most wins in a single season in MLB history. Of course, the Cubs did it back when MLB seasons were only 152 games long.

While we hope the Dodgers don’t realize the same fate as the Mariners, we can be proud of the accomplishment by the boys in blue.

For those wondering, the 1906 Cubs lost in the World Series to the White Sox.
