Everyone knows that it takes a different kind of game plan when it comes to playing and managing at Coors Field in Colorado. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts touched on the philosophy for starting pitchers there.
“In Colorado, as a starting pitcher, the goal is to just pitch better than the other starting pitcher…”

Roberts really hit the nail on the head there with this quote:
In Colorado, as a starting pitcher, the goal is to just pitch better than the other starting pitcher…
Of course, the Dodgers survived a slug-fest in Colorado last night, punctuated by 2 Muncy bombs, and a Kiké Hernandez pinch hit home run, that came with some extra curricular activities.

Hyun-Jin Ryu at Coors Field
Dave was asked about Hyun-Jin Ryu’s first outing at Coors Field since 2017 where is pitched to a 10.13 ERA in 3 starts.
We don’t know what’s going to happen – he’s a completely different pitcher now. He’s been healthy for quite some time. And every time Hyun-Jin’s taken the mound [this season] he’s out-pitched that starter.
Of course concern comes with the altitude at Coors, but also with the unseasonable Colorado heat helping the ball fly. As evidenced by the combined 6 home runs between the two teams on Thursday night.
