Dodgers Dave Roberts Supports All-Star Case for Max Muncy

On his 20th home run of the season, Max Muncy joined Cody Bellinger and Joc Pederson to form a group of home run hitters who have hit 20 or more home runs before the month of July. That feat hasn’t been done in 16 years, since the Braves trio of Jones, Sheffield and López in 2003.

Dodger fans are hoping that Max Muncy can join Cody Bellinger in the All-Start game in Cleveland as his offensive numbers are definitely up there for consideration.

Muncy’s Offensive Stats:

  • WAR – 3.6 (6th)
  • Hits – 78
  • HRs – 20 (1st in AB per HR with 11.3)
  • BA – .285
  • RBIs – 57
  • OBP – .388
  • SLG – .558 (5th)
  • OPS – .946

It’s the defense and the ability to play multiple positions well that has manager Dave Roberts really pulling for Mr. Muncy.

“I put a lot of work this offseason with it,” Muncy said. “It was just something I knew I needed to improve on and sharpen up, and I feel like I’ve definitely done that.” – LA Times

An all-start reserve selection is out Dave Roberts’ control, but he can campaign for him as best as he can. This would continue the rocket-like career path Muncy is on right now after being released by the Oakland A’s in 2017, then to the Home run Derby last year and then to a walk-off home run in the World Series.

“It’s a goal, it’s a dream to be able to go there,” Muncy said. “And it’d definitely mean a lot for me considering my dad is from Cleveland. It would be a special moment.” – LA Times

Max would have absolutely earned his way to Cleveland and it wouldn’t be a special moment just for him. All of Dodgers Nation would be proud of Max for the way he got there.
