Dodgers: Cody Bellinger Discusses Hitting Mechanics with Hall of Famer Jim Thome

Cody Bellinger possesses one of the more unique stances in baseball considering how upright he stands in the box. His load is unique and he possesses wiry strength that has allowed him to crush 30 home runs this season.

Jim Thome notes his upright stance and says that although it is unorthodox, Bellinger gets his bat head out there as well as anyone.

Bellinger had this to say about his stance:

“The more straight-up I am with my posture, the better path [to the baseball] I have and I didn’t believe it myself because it is so different.”

Belli credits the unorthodox stance as the foundational building block for his success:

“It took me awhile to realize that this is what makes me good. That’s just what makes me good and that’s what I am trying to work through right now.”

When asked about his hand placement, Bellinger also explained that this year with his approach, he has been good enough to get barrel on the ball even when he is fooled.

Bellinger continues to be in the heat of the NL MVP race with Christian Yelich and Josh Bell with his 184 wRC+ and 5.7 fWAR to go along with 30 home runs.

To help lead voters, Belli and Yeli recently took part in a game of M-V-P ahead of the All-Star Game.
