The Starting Staff is Solid As Ever
The Dodgers have the best starting pitching staff in the entire National League, boasting a 3.06 ERA. They also have three starters in the All-Star game with Walker Buehler, Clayton Kershaw, and of course Hyun-jin Ryu.
Their starting pitching has more than made up for the shakiness of their bullpen and has been a big part of the reason that the Dodgers are 60-32 and 13.5 games up. Hyun-jin Ryu has certainly been the star of the trio with his 1.73 ERA and 0.908 WHIP.
Their Sluggers Are Headed to Cleveland
As good as the pitching has been, Joe and Orel could not ignore the offense either. Joc Pederson heads to the Home Run Derby behind his 20 home runs, despite having just 297 plate appearances. Max Muncy squeaked into the All-Star game as a replacement, but he was more than deserving of the nod. He is slashing .266/.366/.531 with 22 home runs in 89 games through the first half.
And we cannot forget the MVP of the first half, Cody Bellinger. Belli showed up in a big way in the 2019 season, hitting an unbelievable .379 with 20 home runs through May. His average has come down to earth a bit since then, but he is still slashing an impressive .336/.432/.692 to go along with his 30 first-half dingers.
The World Series Rematch
Dodgers fans won’t even get a chance to relax after the All-Star break this year, as Los Angeles gets right back into the thick of things. They’ll face off against the Red Sox in a 2018 World Series rematch that will feature a few very good pitchers and a whole lot of firepower. The Dodgers and Red Sox combined for 277 first-half home runs in 2019.
