Dodgers Player Performances at the 2019 Major League Baseball All-Star Game

The 2019 All-Star game has come and gone, and it featured performances and highlights from every Dodgers participant.

Leading off, on the bump for the NL squad was LA starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu, who recorded a scoreless first while working around a lead off single to Houston outfielder George Springer (because of course it’s an Astro).

In the second inning, Cody Bellinger took two balls outside the zone from Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka before eventually striking out swinging at a nasty split-finger fastball.

Clayton Kershaw took over for Ryu in the second inning and was a mixed bag. He struggled with Astros All-Stars as Alex Bregman hit a 1-out bullet off the glove of Colorado’s Nolan Arenado that went as a hit. After recording the second out, Houston outfielder Michael Brantley smacked an RBI double to the wall.

Where Kershaw shined was with his bread and butter curveball, making Minnesota shortstop Jorge Polonco look foolish.

In the top of the fourth, Bellinger struck out for a second time, this time while facing White Sox hurler Lucas Giolito. Cody ended his night 0-2 with 2 Ks.

Max Muncy entered the game in the fifth inning and went 0-2 with 2 punches. Where Mad Max made his mark in the exhibition was in the sixth inning where he laid out for a dazzling diving catch that was book-ended by and equally dazzling stretch save at 1B by Derby champ Pete Alonso.

Walker Buehler also entered the game in the fifth and allowed a run on 2 hits while recording 2 strikeouts, including this one on a slider to NYY 2B Gleyber Torres.

Overall

Ultimately, the American League prevailed in the 90th All-Star game by a score of 4-3. Despite a late rally attempt by the NL squad, Clayton Kershaw recorded the loss, Masahiro Tanaka earned the win, and Aroldis Chapman got the save.

The American League won its seventh straight ASG, and 45th mid-summer classic overall.

Dodgers pitching gave up 5 of the 8 AL hits, and 2 of 4 runs in the exhibition. Everyone came out healthy and will continue on to real baseball in Boston on Friday, where they will be joined by a few familiar faces.
