Dodgers: Cody Bellinger Talks MVP Chants at Fenway Park

Dodgers fans are showing themselves to be well traveled. Especially was the case during Saturday night’s nationally-televised game on the FOX Saturday Baseball broadcast. It was there that Cody Bellinger got ‘MVP-MVP’ chants from Los Angeles fans who made the long road trip.

While the Dodgers got plenty of offense in this one, Bellinger had a single off Chris Sale and a home run later in the game against a guy with a unique pitch profile.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX spoke with Bellinger following the game about the chants, and his unique homer that was the first of it’s kind in Bellinger’s career.

First, Rosenthal wanted to know what it’s like to get MVP chants in a road park like Fenway.

“It’s incredible. Our fans are traveling all over the world right now. They’re swarming downtown Boston right now, it’s been incredible. Hats off to our fans.”

Obviously, if you’re drawing that kind of fanfare on the road against the World Champions; two things are true. Not only are you having a decent year that attracts that type of attention, but your team is having a good night on the scoreboard.

Bellinger’s Fenway Park Knuckleball Home Run

Equally important, Bellinger homered for the first time in the second half to give the Dodgers a 6-2 lead. The home run came off of knuckleball specialist Stephen Wright.

Indeed, this was the first time Bellinger had faced that type of pitcher; and Rosenthal asked him about homering off that pitch.

“That was my first knuckleball that I’ve faced. Honestly, I just didn’t want to get beat by it. I feel like with guys like that you see the ball too deep, so I just tried to beat it to the spot.”

Here’s a look at Bellinger’s 31st home run of the season. This one holds a little more significance because it was his first at Fenway Park in his career. Of course, dialing long distance on your birthday doesn’t hurt matters.

Certainly, it was a banner night for Bellinger and the Dodgers that many of us will remember for a long time. A little less perhaps – without another big moment from Bellinger that the fans had a big hand in – literally.
