Dodgers: Cody Bellinger Speaks About Team’s ‘Whatever Attitude’ in 16-2 Victory

The Dodgers played 12 innings of baseball on Sunday night in Boston before winning, showering, and heading to Philadelphia for the start of a 4 game series. As Orel Hershiser noted during the SportsNet LA broadcast “guys head’s probably didn’t hit the pillow until 5 in the morning [east coast time].”

Safe to say, the team wasn’t coming into the game feeling 100%, but you’d be hard pressed to tell. After going 4-6 with 2 home runs (to retake the MLB lead) on Monday, NL MVP hopeful Cody Bellinger spoke with SNLA’s Alanna Rizzo about his game, and the state of the team.

I think we just came in here with a ‘whatever attitude’ after getting in so late, and sometimes those are the best days — you just stay nice and relaxed mentally, and it showed today.

Over the “MVP” chants from over 800 Dodger fans at Citizen’s Bank Park in Philly, Cody was calm as a cucumber. Which is surprising when you hear about how he prepared himself physically for the contest.

I drank two Red Bulls and took a lot of Advil, so I was feeling alright.

Note 1 here is: kids, don’t try that at home. But more importantly, it highlights the grind that a major league baseball-er goes through over a 162 game season — sometimes you do things you probably shouldn’t just to be game ready.

And ready for the game Belli was. As Rizzo noted, even in what resulted in a laugher, Cody took no plays off.

I just like to play hard. I think sometimes throughout the game you’re not going to do it, but for the most part I try to run stuff out as much as I can. You never know when you’re gonna get a hit.

The 24 year old is continuing to find ways to impress and earn the MVP love (not once, but twice by fans) in 2019. Let’s just hope he got some sleep too.
