The Royals have set their asking price astronomically high for infielder/outfielder Whit Merrifield in trade talks. This is for good reason.
Whit Merrifield trade talk “is a non-starter unless the Royals receive three MLB-ready players who could help them right now, sources said”https://t.co/mALqdKuF7M

Merrifield is one of the best contracts in baseball and just made his first All-Star team this season, as he has posted a .309 batting average and .861 on-base plus slugging so far. He is capable of playing first base, second base, and all three outfield spots with a great deal of viability. He has posted four defensive runs saved this season, two at second base and two in the outfield.
Asking Price
Here is the asking price according to leading sources:
“Kansas City isn’t shopping him, sources said. That conversation is a non-starter unless the Royals receive three MLB-ready players who could help them right now, sources said. “
Three MLB-ready players is a steep price for anyone. That would mean potentially Will Smith, Gavin Lux, and a guy like Ross Stripling heading to Kansas City in exchange for Merrifield’s services. That is an absolute haul and a no-brainer that the Dodgers would not allocate those resources to a bat in Merrifield, when the immediate need is in the bullpen.
Overall
While Merrifield has been linked the Dodgers often in trade talks, it is probably safe to say that he will not rep Dodger blue anytime soon.
