Dodgers: Brewers’ Ryan Braun Changes Stance to Mimic Cody Bellinger

After a recent MLB Network segment with Dodgers All-Star outfield Cody Bellinger, Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers has supposedly overhauled his stance for the first time in his career to model it after the 24-year-old MVP candidate.

Here’s the 2011 NL MVP on the change:

I just showed up and said, ‘Hey, I want to try this.’ What actually put the thought in my head is I saw a demo they were doing on MLB Network about Cody Bellinger and his bat, and where he was starting the angle of his bat in his stance in ’17 when he was really good, in ’18 when he was not quite as good, and this year when he’s been incredible. They were showing how his bat was flatter. I was like, ‘Why don’t I try that?’

A former MVP learning from a future MVP…

Cody Bellinger’s stance is interesting in the way that it is so upright and with as much success he has had with it, it would not be surprising to see more major league hitters try and model their stance after his.

Braun, 35, has enjoyed a good career – albeit with a performance-enhanced taint – posting a lifetime .297 batting average and .891 on-base plus slugging. To see an old dog Ryan Braun readily accept the new tricks that Bellinger is showing the world and succeeding with is pretty awesome.

If you take a look at the new Ryan Braun stance, his bat positioning has been altered and has become more upright with his stance (not to the extent that Bellinger does, but still).

Bellinger underwent his own stance reconstruction as recently as last May:

Moreover, after working further with hitting strategist Brant Brown and company in the off-season, his stance has since been altered from then too.

Although Ryan Braun is not exactly beloved amongst Dodger fans because of his theft of the NL MVP from Matt Kemp, it is pretty cool to see a veteran remodel the way they play the game of baseball after one of our own.
