Top LA Dodgers Prospects Move Up in Mid-Season Rankings Amongst Prospect Gurus

FanGraphs’ prospect gurus Kiley McDaniel and Eric Longenhagen created and adjusted their 2019 Mid-Season Prospect Rankings on ‘The BOARD’, which you can find here.

There are several changes made that concern the Dodgers and their future:

Dustin May

May is now ranked the ninth-best prospect in the league. May could be amongst September call-ups and may be a rotation fixture as soon as 2020.

Gavin Lux

Lux is now ranked the eleventh-best prospect in the league. Lux is currently on track to make his debut at the end of this year as he continues to crush Triple-A pitching.

Keibert Ruiz

Ruiz is now ranked the 13th-best prospect in the league. He could be useful as a trade chip at the deadline.

Will Smith

Smith is now ranked the 67th-best prospect in the league. He should be the Dodgers’ postseason catcher.

Josiah Gray

Gray is now ranked the 110th-best prospect in the league.

FanGraphs had this to say about Gray’s development:

Gray’s command has taken a leap. Remember that this is a small college conversion arm who may just be scratching the surface of his talent.

Tony Gonsolin/Jeter Downs

Gonsolin and Downs are ranked on the periphery of the top-125. Gonsolin has already seen the majors whereas Downs is possibly a couple years away.

Diego Cartaya

Cartaya is not near the top-125, but did move up in his future value ranking as assessed by FanGraphs:

Cartaya’s taken to a pro strength and conditioning program and has started to separate himself from other 2018 July 2 signees.

Overall

This system is good. Really good. The Dodgers will continue to be good with an already young core mixed in with top-tier prospects like they have.
