Dodgers top infield prospect Gavin Lux is in the middle of a fantastic season. In 79 games between double-A Tulsa and triple-A Oklahoma City, he’s posted a .355 batting average with a career high 20 home runs while adding 58 RBI.
Heading into the 2019 season he ranked as the 9th best shortstop prospect by MLB Pipeline, and was rated as the 40th best prospect in baseball by Baseball America. As part BA’s July update, Lux has since climbed 26 spots as he continues to light AAA pitching on fire.

While he was good in 2018 (.324/.399/.514; 27 2B, 15 HR), he’s kicked it up a gear this season thanks to a swing adjustment worked on in the off-season with Dodgers hitting coach Robert Van Scoyoc. Lux speaks on his swing.
I think about — Rob, our hitting coach talks about it a lot — the back elbow kind of leading in front of my barrel to get on plane, and that’s creating a whip and snap effect. So I think about that, and my back hip and back elbow going together. It keeps me grounded longer.
The 2019 MLB Futures Game selection is batting .541 since his call up to OKC, and is knocking on the big league door. Experts feel that he would already be up with the MLB club if he were a right-handed batter — to help offset the blow of losing Chris Taylor for more than a month — or was closer to big league ready as a defender.
Lux continues to hear his name mentioned in trade talks approaching the trade deadline, but Los Angeles views him as close to untouchable as they come.
