The Dodgers are raising season ticket prices once again, something that has become commonplace amongst all sports franchises. However, the Dodgers do it a little bit more than most. Cite this statistic:
It’s July 18 and the Dodgers already sent out season ticket renewal invoices for 2020. Since our first season in 2014, our ticket price has gone up 90%.

In the past five seasons, the Dodgers have increased the average season ticket package by a whopping 90 percent. For a winning product and one of the most historic franchises in sports history, this comes as no surprise. However, it does not mean it is right.
When looking at pure numbers, a current season ticket holder informed Dodgers Nation that the price of their tickets jumped from $11,000 to $13,000 for the upcoming season. With the MLB All-Star Game coming to Los Angeles in 2020, ownership is taking full advantage of the situation.
Assessing the Damage
From the LA Times, Bill Shaikin gets more from current season ticket holders.
Todd Munson said he first bought two reserve-level seats in 2014. The cost of both seats then was $32 per game. The cost would be $30 for each seat in 2020, he said.
“That’s getting to be a little spendy,” he said.
Mark Wolf said his reserve-level tickets jumped to $37 per game next season, up from $26 this season and $21 in 2017, when he first bought the seats.
The average household is being taken out of the ballpark simply by being priced out. It is a genuine epidemic when considering all the other costs that come with attending a game: food, drinks, transportation, etc. It is bad enough that Dodger fans in particular have viewership issues to begin with as a great deal of the fanbase remains without their team on their television.
The Dodgers continue to put a great team on the field, but the prices of tickets are skyrocketing to a point where many die-hard fans are being subjected to watching their Boys in Blue from their television screens. Some can’t even do that.
Overall, this issue is not a surprising one, but the fact that the Dodgers already sent out 2020 season ticket invoices is absurd. It isn’t even August yet. Crazy.
The Dodgers have declined to speak publicly on the matter as of this time.
