Dodgers utility man Matt Beaty is in his fourth tour of duty with the team here in 2019, so he’s racking up the frequent flier miles for sure. However, he’s done nothing but prove that he belongs in the big leagues every step of the way.
After having some late-inning heroics erased by the bullpen in Philly earlier this week, on Saturday night, the struggling bullpen allowed him the opportunity to do what he does best. Be clutch.
After the Marlins tied the game at 6 a-piece in the top of the 8th inning, in the bottom of the inning, Beaty stepped to the plate with 2 runners on and 1 out. Then this happened.

Matt speaks on the big moments.

For me it’s just not thinking too much about it, just go up there and have another at bat and not try to expand — just get a pitch over the middle and hit the ball hard.
I wasn’t looking for a particular pitch, I was just looking for something that I can drive. I just love the opportunities and just trying to make the most of them.
On Beaty’s clutch shot, the broadcast team of Joe Davis and Nomar Garciaparra add in their 2 cents.

He seems to just look forward to these type of moments — doesn’t get too high, doesn’t too low, and then he comes through in the clutch.
Clutch
“Clutchness” is not a real word, but it should be when it comes to Matt Beaty because he would be the poster child for it.
FOTS Matt Beaty is now batting .452 (14-31) with runners in scoring position, with 3 HRs.
He’s also batting .384 (10-26) in “late and close” situations.
Matthew Thomas Beaty, you are insane.

.452 with runners in scoring position in his young big league career is nothing short of phenomenal. While he may not be a household name around the league yet, he’s certainly setting himself up to playing everyday in the bigs — whether with the Dodgers, or as part of a larger trade for bullpen help.
As much as it would hurt to lose someone with the “clutch gene”, and someone that’s an all around good person, he deserves to be playing every day in the MLB.
