Dodgers Trade Deadline: Pirates Likely Not Trading Felipe Vazquez

It appears that left-handed closer Felipe Vazquez will not be on the table in trade talks this season, according to Chris Adamski of Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and Pirates’ GM Neal Huntington.

With the Pirates fully expecting Felipe Vazquez to be ‘closing the next Pirates’ playoff games’, this takes the super-reliever effectively off the market and honestly, for good reason. Although Pittsburgh could command a pretty steep price for Vazquez, the time to strike most likely is not now for them.

Any potential Dodgers’ package would most likely start with either Dustin May or Keibert Ruiz with multiple mid-level prospects to sweeten the offer. This appears to no longer be an option and fully expect the Dodgers to move on from the Vazquez front in the days leading up to the deadline.

Vazquez, 28, holds a 2.28 DRA on the year with a whopping 66 strikeouts across 42 1/3 innings. He remains one of the game’s premier young closers and arguably the best left-handed reliever in the sport.
