Dodgers: Dave Roberts Speaks on Cody Bellinger Being Thrown Out at Home

After a 5-4 Dodgers loss to the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night, fingers were quickly pointed at LA third base coach Dino Ebel for sending Cody Bellinger home on what ended up being the final out of the game. Manager Dave Roberts defended the call.

Right there in that spot — the arm strength, the accuracy, two outs — it still takes a heck of play by  Calhoun to make the play. And tonight we got beat. You look at the Trout play, on a line from center field and throws out Muncy. Pujols makes a great play to get Russell at the plate.

Our guys played to the end, and it’s one of those nights that we got beat.

Dino has been exceptional in the 3B coaches box all season long, but a game where 2 runners are gunned down at home will always lead to questions. Earlier in the game, two-time AL MVP Mike Trout unleashed a 98mph dart to home plate to cut down Max Muncy trying to score.

However, it was Kole Calhoun – a former AL Gold Glove award winner in right field – who ended up with the play of the game as he was able to cut down the game-tying run at home for the final out of the evening.

After the game, Ebel took ownership of the outs, saying “it’s all on me.”

Hardly, Dino. Those Angels have some arms.
