Trio of LA Dodgers Prospects Move Up in Fangraphs’ Rankings

The Dodgers’ top three prospects have all moved up one spot on FanGraphs’ prospect rankings list, The Board, after Padres’ shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. graduated.

Pitcher Dustin May is now ranked as the eighth-best prospects in baseball by The Board. Just behind him is shortstop Gavin Lux at 10 and catcher Keibert Ruiz at 12.

All three players were recently promoted to Triple-A with the Oklahoma City Dodgers in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.

Through four starts for OKC, May has pitched to a 2.53 ERA with a 7.59 K/9. According to FanGraphs, “May has big-time heat and a great breaking ball, both of which he commands. Other than changeup development, he’s a complete pitching prospect.”

Lux has taken the league by storm since his promotion. In 93 plate appearances, he is hitting .481/.548/.963 with eight home runs. According to FanGraphs, “Lux has suddenly grown into an enviable hit/power combination and has a middle infield defensive profile, though keep an eye on his throwing issues.”

Ruiz was the last of the three to be promoted so he only has 10 plate appearances over two games in Triple-A. He has picked up three hits, including a home run and four RBIs in that time. According to FanGraphs, “Elite arm accuracy, receiving, and feel for contact drive Ruiz’s profile, which is incomplete but still spectacular for a catcher.”

Catcher Will Smith remained as the 67th ranked prospect on the list.

FanGraphs’ The Board also ranked the Dodgers’ minor league system as the third strongest in baseball.
