Dodgers News: Tony Gonsolin Expected to be Recalled from Minor Leagues

The Dodgers are expected to recall right-hander Tony Gonsolin to start against the Rockies at Coors Field this week.

Gonsolin ranks amongst the Dodgers’ top pitching prospects and will be making his second career start at the big league level. With Ross Stripling’s recent placement on the 10-day IL with biceps tendinitis, the Dodgers have an immediate need for a starting pitcher and Tony is reportedly the move.

Since his debut, the right-hander has struggled against AAA bats, while also spending some time on the Minor League IL with a hamstring issue. In 4 starts, he has yet to make it out of the 4 inning while allowing 12 earned runs in 10.1 IP.

Nevertheless, the 25 year-old Gonsolin has been a central part of trade talks for the organization and this start could be somewhat of a showcase for other teams. In his singular start for the Dodgers, he faced some bad luck, allowing 4 earned runs across 4 innings of work. This assignment at the hitter-friendly Coors Field is not the ideal way to make just your second career start, but Gonsolin has the makeup to be fine.

It is unknown at the time if he will stick in the rotation or if this is just a one-start deal.
