Dodgers Trade Deadline: Noah Syndergaard Reportedly Pulled Off the Market

The Dodgers trade market may have taken a hit. Joel Sherman was first to report that the New York Mets have reportedly taken Noah Syndergaard off the trading block, as of last night.

Ultimate Throw In For A Reliever Trade

The Dodgers have been in search of bullpen help. Unless you’re new to the team, this has been the obvious push the front office has been making. The whispers and rumors about making a trade for Mets reliever Edwin Diaz have been circling for some time now. Many speculated that a deal for Diaz and Syndergaard would work better for the Mets. The Dodgers could’ve lined up any number of deals for them, including Joc and a few prospects (but probably not Lux.) More likely this would have included the likes of Dustin May or Keibert Ruiz. Whether or not any individual Dodger fan would like those deals, they’re probably in the right area in terms of being a fair trade.

What Are The Mets Doing?

Only the New York Mets could be deluded enough to think that they could make a push at the 2nd wild card spot. They’re currently 5 games back of the wild card, with SIX teams in front of them. This wouldn’t surprise anyone, however.

The other reason to keep Syndergaard is that he’s good. He just came off an outing where he struck out 11 and walked only 1 in 7 1/3 innings. The Mets might think they can make a run at the NL east next year, and who could blame them there? He’s certainly got the stuff.

What Now For LA?

It makes things harder to estimate to deal for just a reliever who’s not been pitching well. Edwin Diaz has struggled of late, so the Dodgers could just bank on the Mets selling low for him. Maybe one major league outfielder (Joc Pederson?) could be enough to shake Diaz from the Mets. Time, very shortly, will tell.
