Dodgers infielder David Freese, who has been on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain, could remain off the field until September, per Ken Gurnick.
David Freese might not return until Sept. 1.

This could be for precautionary reasons, since the Dodgers already have a 16-game lead in the NL West, with a record of 73-40. The Dodgers have time to let Freese get fully healthy before October’s playoff run. The Dodgers added right-handed batters Tyler White, Krisopher Negron, and Jedd Gyorko to the roster to help offset the loss of Freese, further affording him time to recover.
In 66 games this seaon, Freese is batting .300 on the dot (42-140). He’s also chipped in 32 runs, 9 HRs, 27 RBI’s. When Freese has been in the lineup for the Dodgers, or as a pinch hitter, Freese has delivered for the Dodgers, numerous times. He will be a big part to any run World Series run in the playoffs.
Moreover, the Dodgers are in no rush to bring back players like David Freese and Rich Hill, until they are fully healthy, and ready to compete for a World Series. Earlier this week, manager Dave Roberts hinted that he’s not ruling Gavin Lux out yet, from making his Major League debut this season.
He is a really good young player, he’s got a very advanced feel for what he’s doing. The maturity in the batter’s box, is really special for somebody his age. He is a guy that we will feel very confident that Dodger fans are going to fall in love with.
Going forward, he obviously got moved up to triple A, and it hasn’t even been a speed bump for him. But from our standpoint with young players, if there is an opportunity to play everyday, and its what’s right for their development. We make those moves and when it’s not, then we wait a little bit. But this is a guy that I feel like will really impact us next year, but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of it being this year, but feel very confident about next year.
A Gavin Lux Major League debut may come this season, but that remains to be seen.
