Dodgers top right-handed pitching prospect Dustin May, who tossed 5 2/3 innings of one run ball against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, will make his third career start next week against the Miami Marlins.
#Dodgers Dave Roberts said Dustin May will get another start after today (because Ross Stripling not ready to return). That would be in Miami next week

It was initially up in the air whether or not May would be making another start, transitioning to the bullpen, or being sent back down to Triple-A Oklahoma City a la Tony Gonsolin.
May’s first career outing was better than his line suggests. He allowed 3 earned runs over 5 2/3 innings, striking out 3 and surrendering 9 hits. It was evident in his first start that he has the potential for greatness. The run on his two-seam fastball and the change of pace with his cutter are going to allow him to be successful for quite some time, health permitting.
The 21-year-old top prospect, ranked 8th in MLB by Fangraphs, tossed just 27 1/3 for Triple-A Oklahoma City. With the balls supposedly being juiced, May still pitched very well — to the tune of a 2.30 ERA.
May is getting the (at least one) additional start thanks in part to injured starter Ross Stripling’s slow recovery from a neck issue. Stripling was initially expected to make a rehab appearance this passed Tuesday, but was scratched after aggravating his neck issue.
Until Stripling, or even Rich Hill return from the injured list, May is expected to remain in the rotation for the Dodgers.
