In a recent column by Pedro Moura of The Athletic, numerous Dodgers folk, including manager Dave Roberts, top prospect Gavin Lux, and infielder Edwin Rios, weighed in on Dustin May and the fire that isn’t just in his hair, but is present on the mound as well.
Dustin May can be "an animal" on the mound, just like Rich Hill. The Dodgers could end up relying on May and his fierce competitiveness in a crucial role come October.

Top prospect and friend of Dustin May, shortstop Gavin Lux spoke on Code Red:
“When he gets on the mound, man. He’s about as fierce as it gets.”
The real conversation began with Edwin Rios, who was asked about Dustin May’s mound presence and eccentricity:
“He’s a normal guy, means well, but once he gets on that mound, it’s a different guy. He’s an animal. He reminds me a lot of Rich. That’s the dog in him, and D-May is the same way. He’s very nonchalant, but once he gets up there he’s a dog.”
That is quite the comparison. Rios is someone who has been May’s teammate at a few different stops. On the other hand, though, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke on the comparisons drawn between the 21-year-old Dustin May and 39-year-old Rich Hill:
“He’s not to that level yet, not even close. But he’s trending that way.”
With May’s endless level of talent, his intensity being likened to ‘Psycho Rich’, and his flowing red locks, he is a dangerous man. He will be for years to come.
For someone who is just 21 years old and possesses the ceiling of Dustin May, the upside is there. But for someone with the strong mental makeup and intensity that May can bring every fifth day, the upside is unimaginable.
