Dodgers News: Tony Gonsolin to Start Sunday, Jedd Gyorko to be Activated

The Dodgers have a flurry of both positional and roster moves coming on Sunday.

Tony Gonsolin Starts

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has announced that right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin will be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to start against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.

Gonsolin has thrown just 14 innings in the majors this season across three appearances (two starts), amassing 13 strikeouts. He holds a solid 3.21 ERA and 2.50 FIP so far. In his past two outings, he has fared a lot better, tossing 10 innings with 10 strikeouts while allowing just one earned run.

Dustin May Relieves

Dustin May was scheduled to start on Sunday against Atlanta, but will instead pitch out of the bullpen, according to manager Dave Roberts.

It is not yet known the length of the expected stint for May, but it is telling that he is being given a shot out of the bullpen in the coming weeks.

Jedd Gyorko Activation

The Dodgers acquired utility infielder Jedd Gyorko at the trade deadline, and he will be activated on Sunday to start at first base. The 30-year-old played 7 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City going 6-22 on his rehab assignment.

Gyorko was an under-the-radar deadline move and while he has struggled at the plate this season (55 wRC+), he posted a 150 wRC+ against left-handed pitching in 2018. The Dodgers surely hope he can return to that level of production. Outside of his plate skills, Gyorko can play all four positions on the infield, which should serve as a valuable asset to an already versatile Dodgers club.
