Hernandez has been on the injured list since late July, due to a left-hand sprain. He has been taking rehab at-bats in Arizona in preparation for his activation. In 5 Arizona League at-bats thus far, he’s collected 1 hit and 2 walks.
Along with Hernandez, Chris Taylor is expected to be activated on Tuesday as well. Taylor suffered a fractured forearm on a hit by pitch and has been on the IL since July 15th. CT3 has gone 5-10 in 3 games with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga — including this one covered by Dodgers Nation.
Both players had been on recent hot streaks before hitting the injured list. Hernandez has an overall season line of .238/.309/.433 with 16 home runs and 52 RBI in 98 games. Taylor is sitting at .261/.334/.452 with 8 home runs and 41 RBI in 90 games
The front office went out and picked up Kristopher Negron, and to a lesser extent, Jedd Gyorko to help offset the loss of Kiké and Taylor, with Gyorko more to help fill in for the injured David Freese.
The Dodgers return home for a a 6 game homestand, starting with 3 against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night. Over the weekend, one of the biggest series of the year will take place — Dodgers vs. Yankees, at Dodger Stadium.
