The Dodgers have recalled right-handed pitcher and top prospect Tony Gonsolin from Triple-A Oklahoma City to start on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves. This move comes along with a flurry of other moves, including the activation of utility infielder and trade deadline acquisition Jedd Gyorko from the 60-day injured list. Gyorko was on the shelf with back and calf issues.
To make room on the roster for both Gonsolin and Gyorko, the Dodgers demoted hot-hitting infielder Edwin Ríos and right-handed reliever Josh Sborz to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Gonsolin, 25, has made three appearances (two starts) for the Dodgers this season and has fared well. He holds a stellar 3.21 ERA and 2.50 FIP so far this season and he looks to build on that success on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta. When taking a closer look at his individual appearances, Gonsolin pitched in some very hitter-friendly environments in his first two games, but still allowed just five earned runs across eight innings. Four of those earned runs came in Gonsolin’s major league debut. Since then, he has allowed just one earned run across ten innings of work while striking out ten batters.
Gyorko, 30, is in the lineup playing first base on Sunday. He has factored into just 38 games this season, accruing just 62 plate appearances. He has struggled in the opportunities he has been given, but it could simply be a product of poor health. Gyorko posted a 150 wRC+ against left-handed pitching last season and the Dodgers are hoping he can return to that form.
Sborz, 25, has made just two appearances for the Dodgers this season, allowing six earned runs across three innings of work. Converted to a full-time reliever in 2018, Sborz figures to be a September call-up when rosters expand.
Ríos, 25, surprised a lot of people in his most recent stint with the big league club. He smashed his way to a 159 wRC+ in 17 games. He put together an excellent .286/.419/.571 slash line in 43 plate appearances, also crushing two home runs and driving in four.
