Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw has been getting some major run time lately. Of course, this is for good reason. Recently, Kershaw became the winningest pitcher in Dodgers’ franchise history.
Now, Dave Roberts is talking about Clayton Kershaw on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXm. From what it sounds like, the Dodgers’ skipper is one of Kershaw’s biggest fans.
Kill the win? It would take a little while to kill 166 wins.

First, Roberts spoke about several of Kershaw’s best qualities. Equally important, he says simply mentioning him alongside a legend like Sandy Koufax is the praise in itself.
“It speaks to number one, consistency, longevity, and excellence. When you’re talking about Sandy Koufax in any breath – obviously that’s high praise. Clayton doesn’t like to talk about himself. I know it’s an honor, he and Sandy are very close. We’re excited for Clayton. But he’s just thinking about his next start.”
Then, the manager gushed a little bit when asked what it’s like to manage a pitcher with historical prominence like Kershaw.
“Sometimes to just sit and marvel at him, I’ve got the best seat in the house, and I don’t take that for granted.”
While Roberts might not take managing Kershaw for granted – sometimes we never think about this perspective of Roberts’ eyes. Think about it: the man has both played alongside and managed some phenomenal talents in this game. Across all of them, he feels conviction when he speaks about the Dodgers’ legendary southpaw.
Sometimes it’s hard to see the picture while you’re in the picture, they say. Surely, Dave Roberts is not one of those individuals when it comes to the all-time franchise wins leader.
