Dodgers: Matt Beaty Key in Big Offensive Performance

The Dodgers had Walker Buehler on the mound tonight, and he did not disappoint. Buehler had an outstanding performance in San Diego. He posted a stat line of: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 11K. The offense found its rhythm tonight as well. Matt Beaty batting 3-for-4, 2 R, and 1 RBI. 3 players getting multiple RBI’s. Kiké Hernandez, Corey Seager, and Will Smith all had 2 RBI’s tonight.

The Dodgers pitchers, including catcher Russell Martin allowed just 5 H, and shutout the Padres. The magic number for the Dodgers is clinch playoff berth is 10.

Following the win, Matt Beaty spoke to SportsNet LA anchor Alanna Rizzo about his 3 hit night.

Hitting’s contagious, for the most part we did a pretty good job today, and some of the balls found holes for us.

We pay attention to runners in scoring position, and we were able to get the job done.

Beaty on if the Dodgers have to get the small ball going in a pitcher’s park:

For me, personally, I don’t try to think about that…there were some balls hit today, that you thought were going to leave the yard, that didn’t, and that’s just the ballpark that you play in…you just got to think about getting the job done and having a good at-bat.

Fortunately, Beaty knows about putting together good at-bats. In a season where so many rookies have stepped up with big moments, Hit Man has been a steadying presence. In 72 games, Beaty’s 3 hits puts his season average at .299. He’s added 7 home runs, 17 doubles, and 38 RBI while being one of the Dodgers’ most dangerous bats off the bench.
