According to many, the Houston Astros are the best team in baseball. They sit in a class of the three elite teams — Dodgers, Astros, and Yankees — as has been the case for what seems like the entirety of the season.
If you ask the general manager of the Houston Astros, Jeff Luhnow, the Astros have a sole claim to the throne of ‘best team in baseball’ and will top both the Dodgers and Yankees at the conclusion of the regular season. Only time will tell.

Here is what Luhnow, considered one of the best GMs in MLB, had to say about his confidence in the Houston Astros:
“Right now we’re half a game behind L.A. for the best record in all of baseball, and I think we are going to pass them. I think we are going to pass the Yankees. I think we are going to pass them because you just think about what we are putting out there every night.”
The Astros (87-47) currently sit just half a game behind the Dodgers and Yankees who hold the same record of 88-47. With the season just a month away from its end, Luhnow’s statement is not too crazy, but he is simply betting on his team. There is a chance he is right, but there is an even greater chance he is wrong.
The Dodgers are in the midst of a season that feels even more magical than 2017, when they lost to Luhnow’s Astros in seven games in the World Series. The Yankees have continued to produce without one of their best offensive producers in Giancarlo Stanton and their ace Luis Severino.
The Astros are a really, really good team. There is a very solid chance that if the Dodgers are fortunate enough to make it to the World Series, it will be a rematch of 2017.
For more context, as well, the Dodgers lead both the Astros and Yankees — all of MLB for that matter — in run differential. The Dodgers are at +222 runs, the Astros are at +211, and the Yankees are at +160.
Luhnow’s comments should light even more of a fire under the Dodgers in yet another effort to prove the city of Houston wrong and to potentially get even this year in October.
