Dodgers News: Max Muncy To Miss At Least Arizona Series

On Wednesday night in San Diego, All-Star slugger Max Muncy took a 94mph fastball off of his right wrist and immediately came out of the game.

While Max was in good spirits after the game, notably saying that he’s “just happy to not strike out again,” he arrived at Chase Field in Arizona today sporting a wrist brace. On Thursday, he said that the joint is “pretty painful still” and that the range of motion isn’t great.

Moreover, it turns out that he didn’t quite go for a traditional x-ray at Petco Park, but instead underwent a fluoroscopy. The FDA helps us understand the differences!

Fluoroscopy is a type of medical imaging that shows a continuous X-ray image on a monitor, much like an X-ray movie. During a fluoroscopy procedure, an X-ray beam is passed through the body.

Bill Plunkett helps us add to the situation.

With all that said, today in Arizona the outlook is less than great. Max shares his situation.

If there’s a tiny crack or hairline fracture, the machine won’t show it. So we’re basically just double-checking it and hoping for the best. With how it feels right now, I’m a little nervous. I’m trying to stay neutral with it right now.

The 29 year-old has enjoyed a fine followup to his breakout 2018 season. In 129 games this year, Mad Max owns a triple slash line of .253/.375/.525 with 33 home runs and a career high 82 RBI while playing plus defense all around the diamond.

With Muncy due to miss at least the series, Kiké Hernandez should receive the bulk of the playing time at second base, but Chris Taylor can also see plenty of innings there as well.

Moreover, wunderkind Gavin Lux is currently pounding on the big league door down in Triple-A with his .396/.480/.734 slash line. With expectations that Lux will be on the active roster come early September, this could become a clear cut path to playing time while Muncy rests his injured wrist.
