Dodgers: Dave Roberts Hints at Gavin Lux’s September Role

Dodgers manager stated that Gavin Lux is being strongly considered for a promotion when rosters expand, according to Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times.

While this has been widely reported recently, the major piece of news coming out of the pre-game media scrum was that Lux could receive the promotion to play meaningful innings instead of not occupying a roster spot and acting under an apprenticeship.

This development without a doubt comes in response to the injury of infielder Max Muncy (fractured wrist) who will be on the 10-day injured list when rosters expand on September 1.

There are numerous candidates available for Lux to replace on the 40-man roster including right-handed reliever Jaime Schultz, infielder Tyler White, and a variety of others.

Gavin Lux is worthy of a promotion without a doubt, but we can only hope that the Dodgers feel the same way. At this point, it does appear that a Gavin Lux promotion is more a matter of when than it is ‘if’.

According to Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times, Lux will not report when rosters expand if he is in fact promoted, but will potentially see time with the big league club later in the week:

Lux, 21, is ranked as the Dodgers’ second-best prospect in their system and 10th overall across MLB, according to Fangraphs’ Kiley McDaniel and Eric Longenhagen.

Lux has set the world on fire at Triple-A Oklahoma City after starting the season with Double-A Tulsa. Lux holds a terrific .390/.478/.723 slash line across 48 games with Oklahoma City.
