The Dodgers have broken their single-season franchise record for home runs with the third inning home run of Russell Martin’s against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Coming into the game, the Dodgers had 234 home runs with 235 being the single-season record. In veteran David Freese’s first at-bat off of the injured list, he homered to tie the record at 235. Martin put them over the top.
This record being broken so early in the season is a serious testament to the amount of power and talent on the 2019 Dodgers roster. It is only September 1 so this season’s team has a full month to separate themselves for the record. This one quite possibly could last for decades.

For the 236 home runs, the Dodgers have been led by MVP candidate Cody Bellinger and his 42 home runs and star Max Muncy’s 33 bombs. Outfielder Joc Pederson has chipped in 27 of his own with third baseman Justin Turner also making up a chunk of them with 26.
The Dodgers notably have a whopping TEN players with double-digit home runs after Freese’s first inning home run on Sunday. If Chris Taylor can pick up one more — he should — the Dodgers will then have a total of eleven players with 10 or more home runs on the season.
This Dodgers team is special and the amount of light tower power on the roster speaks to it.
