Dodgers: Jeter Downs, Two Others Named MLB Pipeline Prospects of the Week

The Dodgers had three top-30 prospects named to MLB Pipeline’s Prospects of the Week team this week. The group was headlined by middle infielder Jeter Downs and catcher Connor Wong who are with Double-A Tulsa and infielder Edwin Ríos who is with Triple-A Oklahoma City and has seen time on the major league roster this season.

This week’s edition of the Prospects of the Week was one that was star-studded and the Dodgers visibly had the most representation.

Jeter Downs

Downs, traded to the Dodgers in the Yasiel Puig deal with the Cincinnati Reds, has more than proven his value this season with both High-A Rancho Cucamonga and Double-A Tulsa. This season at Double-A, Downs has played just twelve games, but has crushed five home runs and holds an elite .333/.429/.688 slash line and 207 wRC+. He is really good.

This week in particular, Downs crushed a .355/.429/.806 batting line with four homers to give him the weekly honor.

For the entirety of the season, the 21-year-old has a .276 batting average in 119 games while also hitting 26 homers and driving in 86 runs. He has also chipped in 24 stolen bases.

Edwin Ríos

Ríos has seen his fair share of time and should be expected up with the major league club at some point in September given his presence on the 40-man roster. In 17 games with the big club, Ríos has crushed his way to a 157 wRC+, marked by two home runs and five total extra-base hits. He holds a .286/.419/.571 slash line with the Dodgers.

This week, Ríos cruised with a .364/.440/.955 triple slash, crushing four home runs and driving in twelve.

Connor Wong

Considered one of the Dodgers’ better catching prospects, the 23-year-old Wong has enjoyed his short stay in Double-A Tulsa. In 39 games, Wong holds a .349/.390/.610 slash line and has hit nine home runs.

The backstop put on an absolute hitting clinic this week, slashing .577/.607/1.154 and crushing four home runs across six games of action.
