On a night that saw rookie second baseman Gavin Lux go 3-for-4 and be a triple shy of the cycle, the Dodgers ceremoniously clinched their seventh division title in a row. Quite the feat for both the Dodgers and the 21-year-old.
Following the clinch, Lux was featured on MLB Network Radio to discuss the wild ride of his big league journey thus far.

Lux’s Wild Ride
MLB Network Radio asked Gavin Lux about the wild ride so far that has been his MLB tenure. He responded with this:
“It’s been kind of a complete whirlwind. I still haven’t really wrapped by head around it too much. I think if you would have told me three or four months ago that I would be able to be here for this, I wouldn’t have believed you. It’s been a lot of fun and I have been enjoying it.”
At just 21 years of age, it appears Lux is okay with the spotlight. From being a first-round pick in 2016 to a top prospect this season, the lights tend to follow him. It’s fantastic that he shows the poise of a veteran. Lux has been off to a decent seven-game stretch to start off his career, slashing .250/.333/.458 with 0.2 WAR in just seven games.
First Clinchmas
While players who have more tenure with the Dodgers have experienced this for quite some time — namely Clayton Kershaw, Kenley Jansen, and Justin Turner — this was the first Clinchmas for the 21-year-old Lux. He discussed the amount of fun he had on the journey:
“[Clayton] Kershaw said a pre-game speech and he said it never gets old. A lot of these guys have done this six or seven years in a row now. It’s still the first time for a lot of them there is what it seemed like. It was so much fun. I didn’t even care about my first home run. I was so pumped up to be able to clinch and pop the champagne bottles. It was a lot of fun.”
A night so good, you don’t even care about your first career home run!
