Dodgers News: Joey Gallo Secures Division Series Roster Spot

There was some hesitation on who will be part of the outfielder for the Dodgers in the postseason, but Dave Roberts made it clear that he wants to see Joey Gallo out there despite his recent struggles.

It remains to be seen how they will utilize Gallo, but obviously Roberts sees the value Gallo brings to the clubhouse. Roberts has had Gallo’s back through his downs and spoke to the media about his decisions to keep Gallo in the rotation.

“Joey’s a threat. You know, every time he gets in there he can hit a homer. He prepares, he works hard, he cares, and I think for me it’s trying to find the right spots where it makes sense to get him in there. But, he’s going to be on our playoff roster. How we deploy him I just don’t know yet.”

It’s surprising considering Gallo has batted just a .161 this season and a .111 this month. Gallo was also in the midst of a five game hitless streak before knocking down his first hit and home run Tuesday night in a 5-2 loss.

The talent is there, but it may be too late for Gallo to truly show what he’s capable of during the postseason. Luckily for Gallo, he has extra time to prepare on his own and figure out his own issues before going out into the spotlight.

If Gallo can fire on all cylinders and the Dodgers get back to winning games, he can be a valuable asset for a deep roster.
