The NLDS is now less than a week away as the Dodgers are set to face the winner between the Padres and the Mets. The Dodgers have some rotations they need to work out but Dave Roberts may have given an answer for who is starting game one.
There is a notion that since there is one day of travel between games two and three, it gives the game one starter a potential four days of rest to pitch a potential game five. This may look like a job for a younger Cy Young hopeful in Julio Urias rather than the aging Clayton Kershaw who may be needed to be used sparingly.
With other key starters slated to also come back, Roberts gave us a small peak of what he may have in store (quotes via Bill Plunkett, The OC Register).
“Just to give you a little peek behind the curtain, it’s more of who we feel is best to potentially come back on regular rest in Game 5. It’s not opponent-driven, it’s certainly not talent-driven, it’s kind of where we feel puts us in the best spot. That’s all I’ll say about that.”
Roberts definitely is not inclined to give any more insight as he prepares for a whirlwind NLDS. Coach speak is the game and as long as Roberts gets his best guys out on the field in a position to win then Dodgers fans shouldn’t worry so much.
It’s a beautiful time of the year, and the Dodgers are poised to make some noise despite tough matchups on the horizon.
