Dodgers News: LA Announces National League Division Series Roster

With the National League Division Series between the Dodgers and the Padres starting tonight, Los Angeles released their official NLDS roster this morning. Here are the 26 players chosen by manager Dave Roberts, president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, and their staffs.

Pitchers (13):

  1. Yency Almonte
  2. Tyler Anderson
  3. Tony Gonsolin
  4. Brusdar Graterol
  5. Andrew Heaney
  6. Tommy Kahnle
  7. Clayton Kershaw
  8. Chris Martin
  9. Dustin May
  10. Evan Phillips
  11. Blake Treinen
  12. Julio Urias
  13. Alex Vesia

Position Players (13)

  1. Austin Barnes
  2. Cody Bellinger
  3. Mookie Betts
  4. Freddie Freeman
  5. Joey Gallo
  6. Gavin Lux
  7. Max Muncy
  8. Will Smith
  9. Chris Taylor
  10. Trayce Thompson
  11. Justin Turner
  12. Trea Turner
  13. Miguel Vargas

While there are no major surprises on the roster, there were a few areas of intrigue over the past week or so. May has been battling to return from the injured list, but manager Dave Roberts had said last week he wasn’t guaranteed a spot even if he was healthy, and then Roberts reiterated on Monday that they might want to keep May off the roster to help him build up more length for a potential spot on the NLCS roster. All that seemed to be building up to May being left off the roster, but he’s in there.

With May on the roster, that leaves no room for Craig Kimbrel, Caleb Ferguson, or David Price. It wouldn’t be surprising to see any of those guys in future rounds (or even this round, if an injury came up), but they’ll start the postseason as part of the cheering squad.

On the position player side, the only real question at the end was whether Vargas or Hanser Alberto would fill the final bench spot. In the end, they went with the rookie Vargas over the veteran Alberto, at least for this first round.

The NLDS begins tonight at Dodger Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 6:37 pm Pacific Daylight Time.
