Dodgers News: Miguel Rojas Reveals Cast Has Been Removed from Right Hand

When the Dodgers traded for Miguel Rojas recently, we also discovered he was in a cast after recent surgery on his right hand. Rojas suffered the injury last July and played the rest of the season hurt, the shut things down a few days before the end of the season to have surgery.

According to Rojas’s social media, the cast is now off.

Rojas told Chris Rose last week that he’d be resuming baseball activities as soon as he got the cast off, and reports earlier this week said the Dodgers expect Rojas to be a full participant in spring training.

Rojas’s role with the Dodgers is unclear; he’s been the Marlins’ full-time shortstop the last few years, but there are conflicting reports about what he’ll be doing in Los Angeles. Some of it might come down to how well other players perform in the spring, because Rojas is acting as insurance at shortstop, second base, and third base if Plan A doesn’t work out on any of those.

The role Rojas will fill in the clubhouse also remains to be seen but figures to be very important. Rojas has been a team leader in Miami and will likely be expected to fill some of the void left by the departure of Justin Turner this offseason. He’s already been in touch with rookie Miguel Vargas to talk about defense, and his experience and leadership will definitely be a huge asset to the team.

But now that the cast is off, he can start with the actual baseball. With all the leadership and good vibes, LA needs Rojas to play well in 2023, and that starts now.
